Nexus staff help out on Sundays at Eldon Square.

Story added: Monday 24 November 2008
Nexus staff will be on hand at Eldon Square bus station on Sundays as shoppers flood into Newcastle for Christmas.

Nexus, which provides customer service staff at the bus station on other days of the week, will be covering Sundays as well from November 30.

Staff are trained to give customers help and advice with more than 500 buses a day arriving and departing from the station and serving parts of Newcastle, Gateshead, County Durham and further afield.

Ken Kemp, Nexus Services and Integration Director, said: “Eldon Square bus station brings bus passengers straight to the shops without the hassle or expense of parking the car.

“Our staff provide a great service for passengers and will be there on the busy Sundays in the run-up to Christmas.”

The £11m bus station – hailed as ‘one of the best in Britain’ – opened in 2007 to provide a new gateway to Newcastle’s biggest shopping mall and the whole city centre.
